آپارتمان شماره ۱۵۳ در طبقه پنجم یک برج مسکونی قدیمی، در منطقه هروی تهران واقع شده است. مالکین این پروژه، خانواده‌ای سه‌نفره‌اند که برای ادامه تحصیل فرزند خود، قصد مهاجرت از اصفهان به تهران را داشتند. تیم طراحی پروژه در بازدیدهای اولیه از این آپارتمان، متوجه کیفیت پایین ساخت بنا، وجود برخی زوائد بصری در قالب تزئینات، و عدم شفافیت در برنامه‌دهی پروژه به لحاظ تفکیک فضاهای عمومی و خصوصی شد. از سوی دیگر، به سبب تجربه پیشین کارفرما از زندگی در شهر اصفهان، قصد داشتیم تا علاوه بر طراحی خانه‌ای امروزین، احساسی از حضور در فضاهایی با ماهیت گرم، چون شهر اصفهان را از طریق کاربرد هدف‌مند رنگ‌ها و بافت‌ها، برای آنان ایجاد کنیم.
از طریق تعریف یک فضای واسط با کف‌پوش و دیواره‌های سفیدرنگ، پلان واحد را به سه قسمت فضاهای خصوصی، میانی و عمومی تقسیم کردیم. قسمت شمالی که بخش خصوصی پروژه است، با کف‌پوش‌های چوبی و دیوارهایی به رنگ بژ، فضایی گرم و صمیمانه را شکل داده است که شامل ورودی، سرویس بهداشتی، حمام، اتاق خواب و اتاق سنتی است. فضای میانی شامل آشپزخانه است که دسترسی مناسبی به بخش‌های خصوصی و عمومی دارد، و نیمه جنوبی که دارای دید مطلوبی به شهر تهران و حیاط ساختمان است، شامل سالن پذیرایی، نهارخوری و اتاق مطالعه است.
به سبب استقرار ساختمان در طبقه پنجم و شکل‌گیری فضاهای عمومی در نیمه جنوبی، در طول روز، سالن پذیرایی، نهارخوری و آشپزخانه به عنوان فضاهای جمعی، از نور و گرمای مطبوع خورشید بهره‌مند می‌شوند، و در شب، همین پنجره‌ها قابی بی‌پایان از نمایش رد چراغ‌های ساختمان‌ها و جریان همیشگی زندگی در تهران همیشه بیدار هستند که می‌توان ساعت‌ها به آن خیره شد.
بنا به درخواست کارفرما، یکی از اتاق‌ها را به فضای مطالعه اختصاص دادیم و در طراحی اتاق مطالعه، تلاش کردیم تا با چیدمان بی‌واسطه گیاه بامبو، تعریفی نوین از جایی برای کتاب ارائه دهیم تا علاوه بر کاربردی‌بودن، زیبایی کم‌نظیر این گیاه را نیز ستایش کند.
این خانه، روایتی از داستان یک مهاجرت است، اما به بیانی دیگر. این روایت در قالب یک تابلو نقاشی توسط تیم طراحی پروژه، در بخش میانی ساختمان ثبت شد تا به یادگار، یادآور این آغاز برای ساکنین خود باشد.

Apartment No. 153 is a three-bedroom apartment on the fifth floor of an old residential complex, in Heravi Street of Tehran, where the density of old low-quality buildings surrounds the area. A three-member family, who owned this apartment, had decided to immigrate to Tehran, for better education opportunities for their son. They are originally from Isfahan, one of the main historical cities of Iran, and had a basic interest in warm colors and the privacy of Iranian traditional houses. Following the first observation, the design team noticed some unpleasant issues such as low quality structure, old facility system, poor ornaments, and some unnecessary extra decoration elements that needed to be fixed to prepare a clear base.
On the next step, the primary decision was to organize the zoning in regard to separation of public and private spaces, inspired by Iranian old houses. As a result, the plan was divided into three sections: private zone (bedrooms and bathrooms), middle zone (entrance and kitchen), and public zone (living room and dining room). This strategy was also applied to the interior design appearance, by choosing contrasting coverings. Intentionally, most of the flooring (public and private zones) were covered by wooden texture; moreover, the private zone’s walls and ceiling were painted beige, to create a warm atmosphere reminiscing the client’s old house in Isfahan. With this in mind, these two parts were connected by the middle zone, in a white overlay.
The client requested to have one of the bedrooms in the public zone; thus, a quiet reading room was introduced. This room was decorated by a wall book shelf made of musing bamboo stems, to create an illusion of suspended books in wilderness.
The location of the apartment on the fifth floor gives a wide southern view of the city form the living room, which enjoys the morning sunlight, continuing to the flickers of beams at night, through the windows. Hence, the design team decided to remove all old extra elements to expose the kitchen to direct natural light. As a result, the counter and the fireplace were converted to simple concrete boxes intersecting with two wooden surfaces. The vertical one covered a column and established a background for the flowerbox into the counter, and the horizontal one became a TV stand.
This home is a narration of migration with which brings many contradictions. A modern city like Tehran is a tough host for this family grown in a warm traditional city. As a juncture of two opposite qualities, and different design aspects, eventually, this scenario was painted on a canvas, as a memorial, by the design team. This painting was displayed at the entrance, to remind the visitors not only the beauty, but also telling a short story of a life.
